The Fethiye region and South West Turkey is served by Dalaman International Airport which until this year has struggled to cope with the volume of holidaymakers heading for the sun-drenched beaches. A new international terminal, three times the size of the existing terminal is opening in April 2006 and will dramatically increase passenger capacity to a predicted 10 million per annum.
For the first time a limited service of winter flights from the UK started in November 2005 and it is widely predicted that the new terminal will attract more carriers throughout the forthcoming winter months. This is good news for existing and prospective property owners.
Throughout the summer months flights to Dalaman leave from most UK regional airports including:
Belfast International
Birmingham
Bristol
Cardiff
Doncaster Sheffield
Durham Tees Valley
East Midlands
Exeter
Glasgow
Leeds Bradford
Liverpool
London Gatwick
London Stansted
Manchester
Newcastle
Norwich
It is also anticipated that in the near future the new terminal will attract some of the low-cost airlines as Turkey is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers. Until then very competitive flights can be found on some of the following websites:
The airport is currently 45 minutes by road from Fethiye and this will be reduced considerably when the new tunnel through the mountain is completed in the near future. Many roads are being upgraded, widened and straightened including those between Gocek and Fethiye and between Fethiye and Olu Deniz. This indicates the level of future potential for investment in property in the wider Fethiye area
There is no shortage of taxis and minibuses offering transfers from the airport to your final destination. They can also be arranged in advance. The transportation will then be waiting for you at the airport which eliminates stress from the final leg of your journey and will collect you for your return journey if required. Prices may vary slightly but you can generally expect to pay approximately £30.00 each way for up to 6 people.
Getting Around
Taxis are readily available and are much cheaper than in the UK. The local Dolmus (large minibus), which is the normal mode of transport for local people and tourists, run every few minutes throughout the region from early morning until late at night, cost very little and will usually stop to pick up passengers between official stops if flagged down.
